Parks and Recreation Commission

We made a brief informational update to Parks & Recreation Committee last night in order to get their feedback on our proposed public process. We summarized where we are with our pre-planning, and underlined the desire for a public input process that reaches a true cross-section of the neighborhood and community. We stated that the outcome will be determined by the public, and that our role is to facilitate, listen and develop concepts. Commissioners reinforced our desire to reach out to the very diverse neighborhood and wider community, and stated that they will be looking for community support when materials come to them from this effort. They stated that achieving consensus may sometimes be difficult, and wanted to know how we were hoping to find it, or how we would recognize it when we got there. We stated that as the project moves along we will be recording what we hear from the community, and designing our facilitation techniques such that the community will be guiding decisions. The planning process has a desired goal of identifying potential improvements for the park. One fully-acceptable outcome is that the community opts for no improvements.
